Somerville Community Path

Boston gets credited as Americas walking city and I think that is certainly valid.  But the reputation of just how tight and accessible this area feels is certainly bolstered by Cambridge and Somerville.  There is so much to see by foot in our neighborhoods!  One of my favorite walks is the Somerville community path.

Taking up the space from an old rail line, the path currently stretches from Lowell St near Magoun Square all the way to Mass Ave where it links to Linear park in Cambridge, allowing you passage all the way to Alewife.  See a map here to get a sense.

On any day you will see people walking, running, and biking their way through the community in a tree lined and protected path.  Along the way you will see sculptures, community gardens, murals and much of the flavor of the neighborhoods you are passing through.  When I’m cruising the path I like to grab a coffee at 3 Little Figs just a block off the path on Cedar St. and head towards Davis Square.  Lots to eat and drink in Davis if you need more fuel up or are ready to hit a patio to relax.  My personal favorite is a sandwich from Dave’s Fresh Pasta.

And stay tuned,  the plan is to continue the path along the new Green Line Subway extension all the way to East Cambridge and the Charles river.

So lace up or get your bike helmet strapped and check it out.
